Posting 5: A drive up into the mountains

Oops.. the plants are in focusSunday 9 October 2005

Overnight, there was some rain which fell as snow about the mountains. Utahns really are lucky to have such incredible scenery literally on their doorsteps.

Today, Shayne and I drove up American Fork canyon into the mountains to hike up the back of Mt Timpanogos (11749ft/3581m). We hiked about 2 1/2 hours up to beyond the snowline. We were really lucky to have good weather, which held out for us for the duration. Heading back to Orem we experience a bit of rain which probably would have fallen as snow at the altitude we were at. We hiked up to about 2800m to the edge of a small glacier and then turned and headed back. It was great to get up in the mountains again, something Krys and I both enjoyed about Utah.

On the way up in the CorvetteThe drive up was great too, courtesy of Shayne's new '97 C5 corvette (pictured). Not content with the performance of this Classic American Muscle car packing 5.7 litres of engine block, Shayne has plans to put a twin turbo set-up on it!! Then it should *actually* fly.
